"Cue Cards"

This small drawing is the first in another new small drawing/collage series I recently started, "Cue Cards". Each piece begins with an altered postcard collected on my travels over the past decade or so. Most show art historical images from various museums. This first in the series is a rethinking of the famous portrait fresco of a Baker and His Wife from Pompeii; the original currently resides in the National Archaeological Museum in Naples.
Mixed media in the piece includes: graphite, colored pencil, acrylic washes, and gouache, and sewn around the edges, cut up and reconfigured artificial flowers (an idea that I am revisiting from an earlier body of collage work, the "Corsage Series").
