"Drawings are ideas with lines around them..."

This blog is an archive for the drawings, paintings, sketches, ephemera, and experiments that come from my studio practice. Many of these images are figure drawings from the live model, a major part of my daily practice. I titled this blog after a quote from the great life drawing teacher Robert Beverly Hale. I think it sums up what the practice of art making is all about.

Mary, Mary!

Just got back from a wonderful (but all too brief) trip to Spain, Madrid and Barcelona specifically. These are some of my favorite heads from the absolutely wonderful Frederic Mares Museum in the old Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. Who says medieval sculpture is expression-less!!
